Fiber Cement Siding Cost
Real numbers, not a lead-generation guess. This is what fiber cement siding actually costs — installation, replacement, repair, and everything that moves the price up or down — before you ever get a quote in your inbox.
Cost by Project Type
Every fiber cement project is priced differently depending on scope — here’s the honest breakdown.
| Project | Typical Price | How It’s Priced |
|---|---|---|
| New Installation | $7–$18 / sq ft | Materials + labor, full exterior |
| Full Replacement | Higher end of range | Includes tear-off, disposal, possible sheathing repair |
| Board Repair | Per board / section | Not square-foot rate — a fraction of full re-side cost |
| Storm/Hail Repair | Per board / section | Same as standard repair; insurance may cover some or all |
| Painting & Refinishing | By sq ft + condition | Prep needed varies more than most homeowners expect |
| James Hardie / ColorPlus | Upper range | Factory finish costs more than primed-only board |
What Actually Moves the Price
Trim Complexity
Corner boards, window trim, and fascia detail add labor time that a flat square-foot number doesn’t capture. A simple rectangular home costs less to trim out than one with lots of gables and window returns.
Tear-Off vs. New Wall
New construction means working onto fresh sheathing with nothing to remove. A re-side adds removal, disposal, and a wall inspection that sometimes turns up sheathing repair once the old siding is off.
Site Access
Two-story sections, tight side yards, or landscaping that limits scaffolding all add time compared to a straightforward single-story wall with clear access on every side.
Finish Choice
Factory-applied ColorPlus finish costs more upfront than primed board that gets field-painted, but it typically holds color longer before needing a repaint.
How to Read a Siding Quote
Not every quote you get is comparing the same thing. Here’s what to look for before you decide based on price alone.
Signs a Quote Is Worth Trusting
A Few Honest Notes on Pricing
We don’t quote sight-unseen. Square footage from a satellite photo doesn’t tell us trim complexity, current wall condition, or access — and a number built on missing information isn’t really a quote.
A repair estimate can occasionally become a replacement estimate once we’re actually inspecting the wall, and vice versa. If that happens, we stop and explain why before doing anything else.
The cheapest quote on paper isn’t always the cheapest outcome. Shortcuts in nailing, clearances, or product formulation don’t show up in year one — they show up as a repair bill in year five.
Cost Questions We Get Often
Why do quotes for the same house vary so much?
Usually one of a few things: different product formulations being quoted (correct HZ10 vs. incorrect HZ5), ColorPlus vs. field-painted finish, or one contractor planning to skip steps like proper flashing or full clearances to hit a lower number. Ask directly what’s different before assuming it’s just markup.
Is a lower quote ever a red flag?
Often, yes. A price dramatically below competing quotes on the same scope is worth scrutinizing — it’s frequently explained by a lower-spec product substitution or shortcuts in installation that don’t show consequences until years later.
Do you offer financing?
We don’t offer in-house financing directly, but we’re happy to talk through project scope in phases if budget timing is a factor — ask during your quote.
Will my final bill match my quote?
For installation and painting, yes — the quoted number is the number, barring a scope change you approve. For replacement, the quote can move if we find sheathing damage once the old siding is off; we stop and explain before proceeding if that happens.
